The skin is the largest organ in the human body and it is one of the first line of defense that your body has against infections and other harsh elements that can cause harm to other parts of the body. With the right diet, minerals and exercise, you can have healthy skin.

Eating the Right Food for Your Skin

The nutrients in the food and beverages that you consume are used by your body to repair skin cells and replace the damaged cells in the skin. This is why it is important to eat the right food to protect your skin and to maximize the elasticity of the skin. Below are some of the foods that must be included in your diet if you are to maintain healthy skin. 

Fruits and Vegetables

Nuts, Beans and Legumes 

Fruits and vegetables are high in antioxidants which protect your skin. They are also a good source of water which helps to maintain healthy skin and increase its elasticity. Examples of fruits and vegetables which are good for your skin are: green leafy vegetables, blueberries and yellow or orange colored fruits and vegetables.  Nuts, beans and legumes are great sources of proteins that your body need to replace dead cells in the skin. Nuts contain a fat-soluble nutrient which protects the skin from the damaging effects of the sun while beans and peas contain minerals such as copper which improve the elasticity of the skin. 

Fatty Fish


Fatty fish such as salmon and mackerel include omega-3 which are not manufactured by your body but are needed to keep your skin lubricated, pliable and soft. In addition, it helps to maintain the flexibility of your skin. 

It is important that you consume as much water as possible because water helps to maintain the elasticity of your skin. Lack of water leads to dry skin.
